Graceful Expressions
Graceful Expressions: The Teaching and Learning of Indian Dances is a panel event hosted by the Center for Washington Cultural Traditions / Humanities Washington. Indian classical dance is an art form that goes back centuries, and as it has evolved, so have the methods used to teach and learn the tradition. How has teaching changed over time, especially for modern generations and for those studying their dance forms in the United States? This 90-minute event features Dr. Ratna Roy, renowned artist and a guru of Odissi; Marissa Betz-Zall, Roy’s long-time student; Anwesha Das, Bharatanatyam artist and guru; and Akhi Vadari, a young Bharatanatyam artist. The panel will be chaired and moderated by Latha Sambamurti, with assistance from Stefanie Fatooh.
